Technology Q & A

Why is using advanced technology so important in orthodontics?

Dr. Moles and his staff always provide you, your child, or your teen with high-quality, individualized orthodontic care using the latest technology available in the field. He places special emphasis on keeping the office equipped with the most cutting-edge orthodontic appliances, techniques, and technologies so that treatment is quick, precise, convenient, and effective.

What types of innovative technology are used?

At The Village Orthodontist, Dr. Moles and his staff use a variety of state-of-the-art techniques and technologies, including:

Digital Impressions

The office’s iTero® digital impression system replaces the uncomfortable, messy, and sometimes inaccurate traditional putty impressions that often cause gagging. Using a digital handheld scanner, Dr. Moles and his staff capture highly detailed 3D images of your teeth to help plan your treatment and create customized appliances.

With SureSmile, Dr. Moles captures detailed 3D images of your teeth, which he uses to plan their precise movement. The SureSmile software calculates the wire bends needed to efficiently and directly move the teeth into their proper places, based on your individual treatment plan. This means you spend less time wearing braces, have fewer orthodontic appointments to keep, and can enjoy more comfortable treatment.

Digital 3D imaging

Dr. Moles uses the revolutionary i-CAT® Cone Beam 3D Imaging System to provide patients with a comprehensive and detailed treatment plan. Once the extremely detailed CT scans of teeth and bite have been captured, Dr. Moles uses the scans to analyze and plan your treatment while also showing you your results so you can make informed decisions about your course of treatment.

Also, Dr. Moles offers Dental Monitoring, a flagship service that makes your treatment more efficient and can reduce your visits to the office. It’s a software you can download to your smartphone that allows you to monitor and track progress for many different treatments.

How does dental monitoring work?

Dental Monitoring works by having you take pictures of your teeth on a routine schedule that you determine with Dr. Moles. Through the app, you send these pictures to Dr. Moles, who uses them to keep track of your treatment process. You can also communicate with Dr. Moles about your treatment, get helpful tips for keeping your teeth healthy, and also receive notifications for things like scheduling your next check up appointment.

The smartphone app walks you through the process of photographing your teeth, and provides helpful tips and trainings along the way. You can even watch the evolution of your treatment by seeing a time-lapse of your tooth movement over time.
