Invisalign is an FDA-approved, innovative treatment process used to straighten teeth with transparent, removable aligners. The aligners are custom-made for you out of durable, flexible thermoplastic — instead of the hindering metal brackets and wires of normal braces. The aligners fit snugly over your teeth according to the digital impressions of your mouth taken at our office.
Invisalign can treat numerous malocclusions in children, teens, and adults. Of course, there are still some situations where braces would be the recommended treatment, and Dr. Moles discusses your different treatment options with you to ensure you achieve desired results.
Clear aligners work the same way traditional braces do, applying force to slowly shift teeth into optimal position, straightening and enhancing your smile.
At the office, Dr. Moles uses advanced 3D computer graphics to design a personalized course of treatment. You then receive your first sets of precision aligners from the Invisalign lab — for your top and bottom set of teeth — which you need to wear for 7 days.
Try your best to wear them at least 20 hours a day to ensure your treatment moves along smoothly. After 7 days, you will move on to your next set of aligners that continue to gradually move your teeth until your smile is perfect. In all, your treatment is broken down into several dozen stages, which is why it’s important to always wear your aligners as advised by Dr. Moles.
Unlike traditional braces and other orthodontic appliances, Invisalign aligners aren’t bonded to your teeth. The aligners are removable, allowing you to eat, brush, and floss without the interference of wires. You can also temporarily remove them for special occasions.
Other advantages of this popular orthodontic treatment include:
Invisalign clear aligners are practically invisible, so you can straighten your teeth without many noticing
The soft and flexible polyurethane plastic doesn’t irritate the inside of your mouth.
Since you can remove Invisalign aligners before brushing, you’re able to clean them much more effectively than you would with wires in the way.
With braces comes a long list of foods to avoid during treatment. Clear aligners allow you to still enjoy your favorite crunchy and chewy foods.
How long does Invisalign treatment take?
The length of treatment depends on the severity of your case and varies for each individual, with the exact length being something only Dr. Moles can determine. However, the average case takes about 12 months for adults, and treatment length varies more widely with teens and children.
Throughout treatment, Dr. Moles monitors your progress closely and provides updated estimations. Still have questions? Read more on our Invisalign treatments.
