Braces Q & A

What are braces?

Braces are oral appliances — either bonded onto your teeth or removable overlays — which apply controlled force and gradually shift your teeth into the correct position. Braces are for individuals with crooked teeth looking to properly align them in hopes of achieving a more appealing, healthier-looking smile.

With modern advances in braces, it has never been easier to straighten your teeth with minimal inconvenience. Braces can even be custom-made to be barely noticeable, so you can smile confidently while undergoing orthodontic treatment.

What types of braces are offered?

At The Village Orthodontist, Dr. Moles and his staff know that you have your unique, individual preferences when it comes to orthodontic treatment. Therefore, he offers a variety of choices with braces, such as:

Metal Braces

These are the most common type of braces. Metal braces are made of high-quality, durable stainless steel. The brackets, which are bonded to the front of each tooth, are connected by archwire, which helps guide the teeth into optimal position. Today's metal braces are smaller, more comfortable, and more attractive than ever before.

Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces move teeth just as efficiently as metal braces, except the brackets are clear and less noticeable. These are the most popular option for adults due to their cosmetic appeal. Earlier versions of clear braces were made from plastic and would pick up stains from the foods you eat. This is no longer the case with clear braces. They are now made from ceramic which is a strong and non-porous material. Clear braces are a great option for patients seeking an aesthetic option for fixed therapy.

The Invisalign system uses a series of clear removable aligners generated by computer simulation to gradually move your teeth. After wearing a set of aligners for 7 days, you simply move on to the next set provided which will gradually shift your teeth toward the desired result. This system is available to adults, teens and is now being successfully utilized for children in mixed dentition as well!

SPEED®  Braces:

Our practice offers SPEED Brackets for our patients who would like to enjoy shorter and more comfortable treatment. These braces which are self-ligating, use less friction to move teeth. SPEED brackets use an energy-storing component called a ‘spring-clip’ to straighten teeth.

This special spring clip, which is made of a super elastic, high-tech material, follows Dr. Mole’s programmed instructions by applying light, continuous forces to gently move the teeth. This results in less discomfort, fewer appointments and faster treatment. And since SPEED brackets are smaller than conventional brackets, they look great and make it very easy to maintain good oral hygiene for the entire time you’re improving your smile.
