Adult Orthodontics Q & A

Why do adults need to worry about orthodontic treatments?

As you get older, having a flawed smile doesn’t just affect your appearance — it can also impact your overall health. Improper bites and crooked teeth — particularly at an advanced age — are linked to serious health complications, such as heart disease and stroke.

Also, addressing your orthodontic treatment needs as an adult sets an excellent example for your kids. It shows that it’s never too late to fix your oral health.

What types of adult orthodontic treatments are available?

At The Village Orthodontist, Dr. Moles and his staff offer a variety of orthodontic treatment options to straighten your teeth, no matter your age, including:

Traditional Metal Braces

This is probably what you think of when you picture someone wearing braces: small metal brackets bonded to the front of the teeth. A thin wire runs through the brackets and is attached on either end to metal bands that go around a back molar.

Clear Braces

Just like metal braces, these are made with brackets that are attached to the front of your teeth. However, Dr. Moles offers clear brackets made from ceramic. A thin wire also runs through these, which helps with alignment.

Invisalign®

With Invisalign’s clear, removable aligners, you can attend special events and eat without worrying about how the appliance affects your appearance. With a series of individually made trays, your teeth gradually shift into position until your smile is perfect.  You need to wear them at least 20-22 hours a day for maximum impact.

Which adult orthodontic treatment is right for me?

Dr. Moles first performs a thorough evaluation of your teeth to assess your orthodontic needs. Then he can better understand which appliance may right for you and your situation. He weighs several factors, including your age, overall health, and the state of your smile. You can also discuss factors such as cost and length of treatment with him and his welcoming staff.
