Adult Treatment

The Local Urbana & Frederick Orthodontist Adults Can Trust

You are never too old to receive orthodontic treatment. In recent years, more and more adults have chosen to have their teeth straightened through various treatment options. Dr. Jon A. Moles, DDS at The Village Orthodontist is your local Frederick and Urbana orthodontist for adult treatment. Having your teeth straightened is a great way to improve confidence and give you that healthy, beautiful smile you have always dreamed of.

When you are considering orthodontic treatment, it is important to note that jaw structure cannot be changed in adults as it can in adolescents, due to the fact that development is already complete. Additionally, gum disease often shows up more often in adults and will need to be corrected before you have your appliances installed. Healthy teeth and bones are essential to the success of orthodontic treatment.

Types Of Appliances For Adult Orthodontic Treatment

With advances in technology, there are more ways than ever to have your teeth straightened. You can choose a treatment options such as:

Traditional Metal Braces.Traditional Metal Braces — This is probably what you think of when you picture someone wearing braces: small metal brackets bonded to the front of the teeth. A thin wire runs through the brackets and is attached on either end to metal bands that go around a back molar.

Clear Braces.Clear Braces — Just like metal braces, these are made with brackets that are attached to the front of the teeth. However, the brackets are clear and made from plastic, ceramic, or a combination. A thin wire also runs through these, which helps in alignment.

Clear Orthodontic Aligners.Clear Aligners — These aligners are removable so you can attend special events and eat without worrying about the appliance. With a series of individually made trays, the teeth are slightly and carefully moved into place until they end up where they need to be. They should be worn for 22 hours a day for maximum impact.

Lingual Braces.Lingual Braces — These are metal braces, but attached to the back side of the teeth. They are a more expensive option, and could also take a while to get used to, but are basically unseen by anyone else.

After treatment, you can plan on wearing a retainer so the smile we have just made together will last for a lifetime!
