Adolescent orthodontic care.Dr. Jon A. Moles and the Village Orthodontist staff are committed to providing patients in Frederick County, MD with the highest quality of orthodontic care available. Our office uses state-of-the-art technology to create individualized treatment plans in a fun and comfortable environment. One of the best times to begin treatment is during adolescence, as most teenagers have a full set of adult teeth and subsequent orthodontic issues. Common problems like jaw misalignment, bad bites, and crooked teeth become harder to treat with age, so it’s best to intervene early and begin working towards a healthier smile.

Your Teen Deserves a Beautiful Smile

There are many reasons to begin orthodontic treatment when children are entering adolescence. Roughly, from ages 11-15, children experience rapid growth, elevated metabolism levels, and increased levels of self-awareness. All of these natural changes work together with orthodontics to help shorten the treatment process, and make a big difference right away. Whether your teen receives traditional braces or straightens their teeth with Invisalign, you can expect an affordable and effective care that will improve their oral health and confidence.

Teens spend most of their time in school, and will see their classmates and friends with braces on a daily basis. This makes them excited to begin their orthodontic journey, and share the experience with those around them.

Orthodontic Treatment Options for Teens

After an initial consultation visit, Dr. Moles will take photos and x-rays of your teen’s mouth to decide the most effective course of treatment. Some teens will start with specialized orthodontic appliances such as expanders, or get their braces on right away. Our variety of treatment options include:

Metal braces.Metal Braces - One of the most common treatment options is metal braces. They consist of small brackets attached to the front of your teeth with a wire running through them. The patient can choose the color of the bands around the brackets based on their personal preference.

Clear braces.Clear Braces - These are structured the same way as regular metal braces, except the brackets are clear. Because these brackets are made out of a combination of plastic and ceramic materials, they appear more subtle and sleek.

Clear aligners.Invisalign Teen - These clear aligners can be removed when you eat and attend special events. Your teen can expect to receive a customized series of aligners to slowly shift their teeth, and produce a beautiful smile.

Lingual braces.Lingual Braces - For a completely invisible treatment option, lingual braces are placed behind the teeth. Because of their unconventional location, they can take longer to get used to.

Typically, treatment can range anywhere from 6-30 months, depending on the individual. Patients can expect a retainer to wear after the process is complete, to keep their new smile looking great for years to come.
